Athens Senior Dinner/Hearing Screening

On Sunday, April 30, 2017 the Athens Lions Club held a very successful senior dinner and hearing screening. This was the 28th year that the Loins have honored the seniors of the Athens School District with a free dinner. The Lions also held a free hearing screening to anyone 10 years old and older. This year 126 meals were served. The meal consisted of ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy, green beans, deserts and drinks. The hearing bus, courtesy of the Lions of Illinois Foundation, screened 24 people. Eight of those tested were referred to the doctors for further testing. The Lions to very happy to provide both events for their community. The Lions wish to thank the City of Athens for the use of the hall.

Athens Lions Collection Day 2016

The Athens Lions Club collection day for Toys for Angels was held on Saturday, December 3. It was perfect weather for the day. The Lions collected over $2700 and a pick up load of toys in the 4 hour time. Because of the generosity of the Athens Community, 113 children, ages birth to 12, will be able to have toys for Christmas. Thank you all for your donations and kindness.

Children Help Angels in Athens

Two groups of children in Athens decided to do what they can to help the Toys for Angels program, sponsored by the Athens Lions Club. Deanna Clark, who has the Lights for Angels, was pleasantly surprised Sunday afternoon when Amber and Ashley Nicholson delivered 34 toys for angels to her home. The twins asked friends, that they invited to their birthday party, to bring Toys for Angels instead of gifts for themselves on their 8th birthday. Thank You Amber and Ashley and Thank You to all the children that brought the toys. This indeed is a special gift of love for others.
Also, for the second year in a row, the Athens Cub Scout Pack 52 has made two warm and fuzzy blankets for the Athens Lions Club Toys for Angels. Many hands were involved in tying knots to create the unique blankets. A special drawing will be held at the toy distribution and 2 lucky Angels will receive the blankets on Christmas morning. THANK YOU Cub Scout Pack 52 for making Christmas special for 2 Angels.
